I love visiting vineyards, or warm farms as they are called in South Africa.
The immaculately kept grapevines, well manicured lawns and picturesque setting get to me all the time. The wine farm featured here is Buitenverwachting. Yup I know right?! It’s “bay-ten-ver-vach-teng”
While we were in Cape Town, Mr M and I tried to cover as much of the wine route as possible because South African wines are quite hard to come by in Australia. What we paid over there for a good bottle of wine couldn’t even buy us a glass of wine here in Australia sometimes so we decided to cash in on whatever alcohol quota we had. I could also tell how proud and supportive restaurants are of their local wines as the wine pairings that we had at top restaurants such as The Test Kitchen and The Tasting Room were mainly from within the country. Always lovely to see a bit of brotherly support there!
I heard so many good things about Barossa Valley in South Australia and that is definitely on our very long list of places to visit. If I can be honest with you, I find it less cost effective to travel around Australia as opposed to flying to South East Asia for example because almost everything is pretty expensive here. Australia has many beautiful places that are worth visiting but more often than not we were enticed to head overseas instead because it felt like we are going to get more bang for our buck. There must be a middle ground somewhere.
Where is some of the most stunning vineyards that you had ever been to?
