I took Mr M out for a nice dinner on Tue last week to celebrate his birthday (I’ve stopped telling people the number because it gets a bit depressing as each year rolls by).
When we first started dating, we would splurge and have fine dining once a month. We finally (thankfully!) realised that this practice wasn’t a sustainable way to celebrate our love for each other (especially in Australia) so we started reserving those opportunities for special occasions. Having experienced the excellence of The Tasting Room and The Test Kitchen in South Africa at rather reasonable costs (and I say this humbly), I was keen on finding a “value for money” restaurant here in Sydney as well. I can’t recall the exact details but I stumbled upon Berta, which ticked all the right boxes for me with their “sagra” on Tuesdays.
I wanted to dress up for Mr M so I gave myself this
very good excuse to purchase something new for the occasion. Culottes were some of my top fashion items to try on so when I spotted these high-waisted white pinstripe ones by Finders Keepers in David Jones, a purchase was made within 5 minutes of trying them on. They are ultra flattering and very versatile. I paired the voluminous bottom with my over-blogged but favourite crop top (view 1/2/3) for a modern, urban look. I also threw on some black suede heels from Nine West and I really enjoyed the combo. The slightly curved shape of the heels reminded me of those crazy statement hoof-like shoes that are now synonymous with Alexander McQueen.
Mr M and I had a wonderful evening sampling delicious food and awesome wine pairings. I might have enjoyed my meal a bit too much as I overdid it by finishing every single morsel and drop of wine. I ended up needing some couch time to recover from an overextended belly. It was in a time like this that I was reminded that moderation is wise.
Back to the topic of culottes, have you experimented with them before? If so please post a link to the photos at the comments section below because I’d be very interested to check them out!
