Mindfulness

I’m going to put out a clear note to Zara to proclaim my undying love for her no matter what but the satisfaction that I get from a well-tailored item is incomparable.

The first time that I heard about Joie was from the very charming Wendy of Wendy’s Lookbook so when the Black Friday sales were happening in full force, I felt a sense of liberty and justification in the way of clothes shopping. I purchased my very first piece of Joie, Soft Joie to be precise from the very much loved Shopbop and honestly, I’ve really been enjoying the soft and uber lightweight fabric. I’m not a big snake print person but the pretty blue hue had completely overridden my dislike for that nasty creature. The construction of the dress is perfect for casual outings but one note of caution though, a light gust of wind is enough to flick the hem up hence making boy shorts a good consideration!

With the year end festivities around the corner, I’m overcome by the urge to purchase new additions for my wardrobe. One of the major differences that I notised about shopping now as opposed to shopping in the past is the extra thought that goes into the decision-making process. Ever since I took the plunge and gave myself the opportunity to experience the goodness of well made i.e. more expensive clothing items, resisting trendy fast fashion has become that much easier. I’m going to put out a clear note to Zara to proclaim my undying love for her no matter what but the satisfaction that I get from a well-tailored item is incomparable to say the least. Suddenly my clothes are not just clothes anymore. They’ve become something that I actually appreciate and want to love.

There are certainly many factors for me to weigh out now that I’m adopting this more expensive (if you will) approach to shopping. I like the idea of mindful purchasing instead of one that is guided by that spur of the moment. I’m still very much battling with the idea of purchasing lesser in quantities but I know that this is a great investment not only in the material side of things, but also both emotionally and mentally.

Mindful shopping is definitely on my list of goals for 2016. What about you?

  1. I agree with the mindful shopping. At times I find it difficult to do that- say like during the festive season all I want are sparkly pretty evening stuff and find myself wanting to buy everything. I ended up taking this H&M dress I wouldn’t really wear (it’s bright red) and got it copied in silk velvet with a few tweaks in the design (yes it’s a bit ironic I bought it from a high street shop).
