Mules

I also have a fear of either leaving one side of the mule behind, or have it flying ahead of me when I’m walking down the street.

I want a pair of mules. There I’ve said it.

I cringed badly when mules first came back to the scene because the last time that I saw them was on my mom, back in the 90s! Because of that, I never associated mules with fashion. They’re something that ‘aunties’ would throw on when they needed to get out of the house quickly but still wanted a bit of height. Surely I used to secretly put them on when my mom wasn’t looking but I never had any longing to own a pair.

Out of the blue (obviously she’s more on trend than me!), I saw Ann Kim from Andy Heart incorporating this unfashionable footwear into her daily outfits, so did Carmen Hamilton from The Chronicles of Her. I was quite mortified to be honest. How could it be?!!! I guess it’s a bit like the kitten heel to some fashionistas, “why would someone actually wanna wear something that doesn’t do much to their height?” “I do, actually.” Anyway, I digressed. Back to the topic of mules.

For weeks and weeks, this style of footwear popped up everywhere and it didn’t do anything for me. I also have a fear of either leaving one side of the mule behind, or have it flying ahead of me when I’m walking down the street for example. I’m just not that great at recovering embarrassing situations.

Maybe it’s the visual repetitions, when I saw Olivia Lopez of Lust For Life wearing a chunky version with such ease and flair, all the negative associations have suddenly come to a halt. She just completely made it for me. I started researching on them and felt like I needed a pair. I don’t need a pair of course. I want a pair. I still don’t know how I’m going to walk in them but I’ll figure that out once I made a decision.

What do you think of mules? Are they already part of your daily uniform?

**An update on my mule sitituation** So I had a chance to try on a few pairs from different brands and honestly, I’m not quite used to seeing so much of my toes sticking and spreading out at the front! I’m still keen on trying out this style but I just need to find the right cut!

Jot down your thoughts!
