I fell in love with poppies after seeing them on Ida Laerke’s instagram. I mean who wouldn’t?

Imagine the joy I had when I discovered a few bunches at my local grocer, and they were on sale! (not a good thing in the world of flowers I soon realised.) I grabbed them straightaway and needless to say, my selection was poor and only a few poppies managed to bloom.

I did some more research since then and following lesson #1, here are a few tips on how to pick good quality fresh flowers: #1. Buds Pick flowers with nice tight buds. Buds should just be breaking and showing a glimpse of colour.

#2. Stems Make sure that the stems are strong and aren’t slimy or smelly.

#3. Leaves Leaves should be clean, crisp and with an even green throughout.

Hope this helps. Have fun selecting your next batch of flowers!
