Family Portraits In Cape Town By Grand Little Adventure

It’s truly a lovely way to immortalise a moment.

Have you ever scrolled through blogs and ig and feel a tad jealous of all the beautiful family photos that were proudly displayed for the whole world to see? Give me a high 5 if you do.

Beautiful photography is, dare I say crucial these days. Gone were the days where good photography was much less celebrated. These days, well-curated photos are able to help individuals and businesses reach far and wide thanks to the incredible power of instagram. Click here if you fancy looking at mine. There’s a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Do you buy into it? I’m on the fence about it actually.

Personally, as much as I love the idea of taking professionally shot family photos, I just haven’t really put in the effort to make things happen because of various reasons, cost being one of them. Photography service (the ones that we like at least) is expensive in Australia and it’s one of those expenses that we can kinda do without. Of course we are also giving up the opportunity to create precious tangible memories. I use my iPhone camera A LOT and have tonnes of photos in my camera album but it’s just not the same. I’m sure most of you can attest to that.

When Tabitha of Grand Little Adventure (who also happens to be my sis-in-law so yay to family!) very generously offered to shoot our family portraits while we were visiting Cape Town, it was truly a treat. I mean seriously, it was literally dream come true. The initial plan was to shoot at Llandudno beach (agh truly my favourite beach ever) during sunset, wearing rich warm tones but the logistics and timing just didn’t suit mini M. Yup, parents-to-be, your world does revolve around your baby, especially when they are little. The other thing was I couldn’t exactly find a beautiful mustardy outfit that I would like to wear (that was the brief) so Llandudno would just need to wait for a bit. It was a shame as Mungo and Jemima had so many pretty things but unfortunately I couldn’t find anything that ‘spoke’ to me.

I hope you’re curious about the photos by now becauseI simply adore them! It was a bit of a cousins’ playdate and photoshoot mashed into 1.

The photos were taken at the woods close to my in-laws and man, if you’ve been to Cape Town, you would know that photo opportunities exist (almost) everywhere. I have to commend Tabitha on making the whole process quick and not stressful at all. Although I was aware that my photos were being taken, everything just sort of flowed naturally. We didn’t need to do any specific things. We were just being us. Wait let me say that again. Our actions were more deliberate but nothing was staged. What made the whole shoot even more special was that we as a family of 3 had created beautiful memories at Mr M’s old stomping ground. If that wasn’t precious enough, I don’t know what is.

So are you inspired yet to take some action to have that special shoot scheduled? If you’re in Cape Town, Tabitha takes beautiful family portraits (yes this is a plug but she totally didn’t ask me to do so) and if you’re not convince, head on to her ig grandlittleadventure to check out her work. I know photoshoots are an investment and that can be prohibitive but if you have some extra budget to work with, it’s truly a lovely way to immortalise a moment.

Wishing you a beautiful day.
