Do You Love A Cheap T-Shirt?

A vintage jacket romance turned cheap T-shirt rant.

When I first laid eyes on the vintage jacket, I knew it was something special. I did however ponder for more than a few moments before taking the plunge because the colours were ‘not me’ and the price tag was hefty.

I think my preggers self (click here to see the belly that housed mini M) must have known what the future holds because ever since a few months back, I was just consumed by a desire to wear warmer colours instead of the usual blues and blacks. This floral coat totally fitted the bill.

For this look, I wanted to look somewhat monochromatic (note the very loose definition here) so I paired the jacket with a light yellow tee and my bone coloured jeans. Alright. Who am I kidding? I just really wanted to wear my new uniqlo t-shirt and my favourite jeans, which I’m having an unusual obsession for considering that I’ve had it for more than 2 years. Unsurprisingly, T-shirts and jeans are my go-to look these days because I have a (literally) goopy baby who loves to touch and tug on everything. While I have nothing but good things to say about my legion jeans,  I do have a stronger opinion on my $14.95 T-shirt.

So, who doesn’t like a $14.95 T-shirt right? One that comes in multiple delicious colours? I certainly do! Moreover I do favour inexpensive tops a lot more these days as Gabriel just rubs his face all over me. As if that’s not enough, the cheeky fella also likes to bite and pull on my tops. I bought this beautiful light lemon yellow (and a dark red one, and subsequently an orange nude one) to try and here’s what I’ve observed:

#1. The t-shirt doesn’t hang nicely on my body. As the cotton fabric is a lot thicker and stiffer than the regular t-shirt, it bunches up at awkward places and doesn’t look as flattering as I would like it to be. The irony is that whilst I like a thicker material (I get holes on my t-shirts A LOT these days), they are less flattering on. Can I ever win?

#2. Stains don’t come off! I don’t know whether it’s the fabric of the stains. All 3 of my $14.95 t-shirts have stains that wouldn’t come off! Mini Ml’s been sick and wiping his drool and cleaning his nose on me but they shouldn’t leave a permanent mark, should they? My other tops seem fine though. Frankly I’m a little annoyed. Perhaps I’m trying to shift the blame on the cheap tees instead of the babe or even the washing powder. Whatever it is, it just doesn’t seem right to have my clothes ruined at such an early stage. Fortunately my priorities have changed these days and those stains have somewhat become a badge of honour for being a toddler’s mama. I’m still putting the tees to good use though I feel a little (ok, a lot) unkempt in them.

How did this become a complete t-shirt rant when it’s supposed to be a romantic love story about my vintage jacket? I think I just needed to get rant off my chest. Phew. I’m actually feel better now.

Would I ever purchase a cheap tee again from Uniqlo or any other mass produced brands? Absolutely. Perhaps one day I would come to my senses.

Hope you have a wonderful day.
