As a SAHM/mom who’s currently on maternity leave, do you ever feel guilty when purchasing something for yourself?

Admittedly I did feel that much dreaded mom guilt initially but that very quickly dissipated because I (along with millions of moms out there) work a very tedious 24/7 job and doing (in my case, purchasing) something that makes me happy (and doesn’t break the bank) is a fair claim, isn’t it? Besides, it’s kinda hard to say no to beautiful/trendy pieces (agh). Improvement in self-control is much needed.

And so, when I saw those boots from Zara, I added them to my cart without too much thought. I have wanted to buy ‘better’ and ‘more expensive’ boots for quite a while but somehow the cheaper ones tended to win the race each time. My confidence in high street boots came from that Topshop pair that I have been wearing constantly that’s going into its 4th or 5th year of use. The quality of these Zara ones are definitely incomparable considering the much thinner leather and rather crappy sole and heel. I did bring them into the cobbler for a bit of reinforcement and that set me back an extra $50. Were the shoes worth it in the end? Maybe not. Do I love the style of them? Yes. Would I continue wearing them? Yes. Did I feel instantly gratified? Yes.

Zara wins.

All in all, I have no regrets adding a few things into my shopping cart now and then. In fact I would say that wearing clothes that I like is good for my soul because fashion is my thing I suppose. Mamas out there, why don’t you do something for yourself today? Hmm, maybe I should take advantage of the sales that are currently happening…
